Where does the time go?

Well summer is about gone, and it was spring when I last made a post.
Life happens around here in more ways than one.
I have had many life changes since May. My hubby is now retired. So we are together more than we are used to. He was a heavy equipment field service tech for over 40 years!!! This type of work wrecks havoc on your body on a daily basis. What a guy!!
Love him dearly and want him around for a long time.

My son Billy went to Alaska to work on a house. He returned yesterday. Here is a photo of him in the woods. Click on the photo to make it larger. He was asked to return there next year. So I guess he will do that.

My daughter Lori is now with us as well. Things are tight to say the least. But she hopes to be in her own place before much longer. She has a job and her work days have been increased. So life is good for her.

I am recovering from working at my local guilds' quilt show last week end. What a mass of people we had. Over 1,200 on Friday alone. I was the admissions chairman.
And have been asked to do it again next year, I told the chairman I would have to think it over.

I have many quilting projects I am way behind on. And some need to be finished NOW~~
but it won't happen today.

Hope all is well in your part of the world..
Till next time-----------

Old things

Just want to share a few pictures of some older quilt items.
They were gifted to me by a couple of friends. Date of these are not really known, but they are neat none the less.
The quilt has been re backed and tied from the back, hence the blue and white checked fabric. I may at some point take this off and see what is under there.. LOL

Been Awhile

Nope I didn't forget I have a blog!! Just seems like it.

What have I been doing?? Well many things and whole bunch of nothing..
Helped my sister get a top quilted. We had fun. Was it perfect? Not by any
stretch of your thoughts. But you anyone will have to look real close to find the boo-boo's. Now on to others.

Yesterday was a sad and happy day for me. Would have been my oldest son's 44 birthday. And we have a new addition to the family as well. My sister, Wilma, became a Great Grandma yesterday morning.. She was so excited, she forgot the word GREAT.. I had to remind her. She will be a good Great granny for sure.

Nothing more quilty at the moment so

Your rainbow is strongly shaded red and green.

What is says about you: You are an intelligent person. You appreciate energetic people. Those around you admire your fresh outlook and vitality. You get bored easily and want friends who will keep up with you.

Moving Forward

Seems March has come in like a lion where I live. Rather cold and snowy today. My sister Wilma is supposed to come over today to use my KenQuilter set up. Not sure if this will happen or not. The building has no regular heat. So will take awhile to get it warm enough to stay out there.

I finally have the Christmas quilts top together. It looks rather busy up close but fun from afar. I have the backing ready to sew for this. and then maybe I can get it done by April 1st.  There are a couple a head of this one for quilting. That's my life.!!
Hope you have a great day..

Sadness and Gladness

Seems as though the days get away from me lately.

Today is a very sad day for me. My oldest son, Kenneth Marc, died on this date in 1999. He was a handsome younger man for sure.  His photo on the left. There are not many days in the past 10 years I have not thought of him in some way.  I can still hear him talking to me about cetain things in his life. I know he is no longer in pain and this is what matters the most to me.!! I love you and miss you Son.

I plan to get some sewing done today. There are many quilts calling my name to be finished. Hopefuly life won't get in the way as it so often does.
We all know about the best laid plans never happen.

Later today, hopefully I will up load a couple of pictures of 2 older items given to me. I was shocked she said take them.  No, they are not worth mega dolllars. but they do have a sence of history.  One is a quilt, and the other is a quilt top. Check back later to see them.

Till next time..............

You may want to help

With the news of the deadly fires in Australia there is beginning a small call for quilt blocks.
the link below will take you to the blogger who is doing this.. She lives in Austraila, so knows more than we in the USA do about what is needed at this time. Also, if you don't want to do this, you might want to make a small donation through the Red Cross. I know we all have tightened our belts due to the money mess around the world. Just give this some thought.. We all can make one block!!!

Remembering My Mom!!

This is a day for me to remember my mother. Though she is gone, I will never forget her and all her words of wisdom over the years. She was a strong willed woman who became a widow at the age of  30!! And with 7 children to boot. There were good times and there were some bad times for us but through it all she never failed to let us know she deeply loved us. Oh, maybe not through words but by the things she did for each of us. She made so many sacrifices for each child. Too many to list or even rember them all.
Seems we have a way of  going back in our mind and remembering the bad stuff in our lives, yet not the good things. Each time I think of MOM my heart gets happy as she was the best mother in the world. Our house was always full of school friends. Seems she had a way with people in general.
So to you MOM I just want you to know, I thank you for all the times you put up with me !! It had to be hard for sure. And for all the words of wisdom you have left with me. I try to pass them on to my own, not sure how that is working for them.  And I may never know.

Ground Hog Day!!!

Hard to believe we are in Febuary already!!!  Have you ever really thought about the Ground Hog Day hoopla? Seems weird when you think about it. The saying goes, " Seeing his shadow--6 more weeks of bad weather - no Shadow - 6 more weeks till good weather."  So if you look on your calendar, it is 6 weeks till  start of spring season.

The Fat Quarter sale at Marti's was a huge success. And would have been better if she had more room. I just know how many women were in this small store at once!! Like a bunch of bee's swarming. All in all it was a good day for her.. And for such a short sale time.. 3 hours.!!!!

I plan to sew some today on the Christmas Quilt. Needed some more lights. Now to get them cut.
It will be a fun quilt once it is done. Hope to have it done and delivered by March. All depends on how life goes.. As we all know !!!

Till next time......

6x6 photo

Well-- I hope  I have done this correct. Since I was tagged by Wima, here is my picture. This is
my granddaughter, in the green skirt and my great grand daughter sitting on her bike she won!!
Actually she won the bike at age 6 months. So we had to wait for awhile to sit her on the seat.
This was almost 2 years ago.. WOW where does the time go?

I plan on cutting fabrics today. Lots of strips. Want to get the Christmas Quilt started. I have auditon many patterns and my hubby picked the one he liked. Since the quilt is for a male, I went with hubbys choice.  We shall see..

Bugged me!!!

Helpmate block above.

Well, I fixed the bad handle. Each time I looked at it, I was bothered knowing the handle was not on the side it was meant to be. So now it is fixed and I can move on.

Yesterday I spent sometime getting things done, or up to another point. Now have things where I can see them.  All the leaves are cut out for the Bee's Quilt I in the process of making.  Blocks are done and squared too. need to sew them together.

Here is a picture of one block I tried to see if I would like the process. Didn't care for the way it looked at the seams, so scrapped that idea.  The next one is a block which will be going into a group project for the Firehouse Quilters. The finished quilt/wallhanging will will go a local

Helpmate office as part of their decore. Not my colors, I just helped get the block sewn.

it's finally done!!

The above picture is of a bag I have made for my youngers grand daughter. Didn't realize I used so much yellow. Anyway the pattern is not all that great for directions.  I actually has to talk with my sister Patty in order to understand what the pattern was saying to do. Thanks Sister!!
This is in no way perfect..

The Bowl

As one person asked if I ran out of things to say already, guess I best explain the String Bowl.

The site was shared on one of my Yahoo Groups. Looked easy enough, so I made the one while our new president was trying to be sworn in. Of course that didn't go right -so it had to be done again. I guess the wording of the oath makes a huge difference.

I do have more strips cut to make another bowl and will post a picture when I finish it.

I am still not real sure how to get a zipper attached to a small box bag I am making. Visual is the best way for me. And this pattern sure lacks them.!! IF I get this done I will post add the photo as well.

What to do today

Been awhile since I have posted anything.  Goes to show my life is not exciting. But I am alive.

We have snow this morning, and some of the schools are closed. With today being guild meeting day I am waiting to see if our City Schools are closed. If so, no guild meeting. Which means no Community Workshop!! Time will tell.

Today is the changing of the guard for the USA. Many are expecting great things from the new president. He can only do what congress allows him to do for the most part.. We have 4 years to find out.

I have been slowly working on a small project from the Fast Quilts magazine.  Need to get the final seam sewn on the blocks, then assemble the rows. Not sure I will do mine as printed. May reverse my colors for the borders. Have to think on this as I sew. All the leaves are ready to be pressed on and stitched around.

Hope all goes well in my world today..  Till next time......

How much is TOO much?

But first -- Here is a photo of my great grandson. He is such a good child. Doesn't take much to keep him content. Hard to believe he will 2 soon. Ans he loves his cars!!!

Life has been interesting for me the past week or so. I am always trying to find what I know I own one of.   I do more searching than anything else it seems!! And by the time I locate the item I am out of the mood to continue. So  I have to ask, how much is too much to have for any hobby or craft?  Do I really need 14 pair if scissors to trim threads? I thnk not. And what about rotatry cutters, how many do you own? For me it is at least 10, if not more!! And yet I use the same one all the time. So what makes me think I need them all? Would it not be better to share these with someone less fortunate? And cutting mats, why do I need so many? Is it the color or maybe it is because I seen someone else have one of that color. Do you think maybe it might be called GREED?
Or being afraid of not having the latest and greatest?  And all the patterns printed from the internet. whew!!!  I will never get even 1/10th of them made.. So why print and store?
Questons , questions, questons that I must find the answer to.

Till next time......

On to a new day!!

My Jan 1st was a very quite one. Just hubby and I all day. Seemed strange as we have had kids on holidays always. Time goes on.

Want to post a litle more about the Vertans Quarters in Asheville, NC.  There is an organization here called ABCCM. They are the overseer's of this project. We had a large motel that closed down.
So the ABCCM, after many months, has taken over the bulding for Homeless Veterans. This facility is about 3/4 of a mile from our local VA Hospital. So it is within walking distance for them to get the medical care they need.  I can only hope this will be a truly positvie program for all who need the help. Not all vets are homeless by choice. Some are  turned away from their families when they returned from their tour of duty. Sad to say but so true. I hope this small thing I am trying to do will let them know others do care about them.

Till next time

Happy New Year

Another year is gone and a new one begins.
And I will have my work cut out for me in '09!!!
Yesterday I called the Veteran's Quarters - which is a new program- to see how many beds they
have . 215!!! this a lot for sure.  Anyway, the first time I heard about this new program for HOMELESS VETERANS I was impressed and wanted to be a part of it in some way. So I will be making quilts for this place! They will be a part of the facility, so many will be able to use them.
Yes it is a HUGE task and committment and I know many will say this will never happen.  Many don't know me!!! (ha-ha)  I have enough fabric and own a short arm quilting system and my hubby is a Veteran too. So I will get started on this today. And keep my progress here for my own records.  I will of course do what I can go get others to donate twin size quilts too.  Or make one for me from my fabic.
More info about this will be posted as progress is made.

Till next time......
