As 2012 approaches

I have been reading many "yearly" lists over the past few days. Seems everyone hopes to get some older projects out of the way early on in 2012.
Which is what I would like as well. Now if all of the fun new projects would not hit the web till June I think I would be in good shape!!!

I have many tops needing quilted- so this will be MY first thing to get out of the way. if my memory is correct I have 22 tops to do.. So if I could do one a day I would have them all quilted in January. Then maybe could get the binding on in Feb. All of the quitls are for the Vets Center. So this is a real priority for me!!

For today I will continue to go through stuff to cull out.
That is a huge undertaking in my world.!!

Happy New Year to all and may all you start in the New Year not end up as a UFO for 2013!!

Till next time...

Well another year is about gone. And  I wonder what I did for the year.. Humm I will have to go back and check some photos.

I hope to be more productive in 2012. Sometimes life just gets in the way.. As it does for everyone at some
point. I have several tops to quilt and bind for the Vets Center. So I must get these done.

I will do inventory for the Quilt Shop I fill in at. Seems she wants to do this BEFORE she has her sale.
Weird to me but I don't own the business. I workd there tomorrow as well. I might just get to sew on something for me!! I just know I will not be busy. Too many sales going on..

I hope you have had a wonderful Christmas and will have Happy New Year too..

Till next time.....

Hello

Where does the time go? Thanksgiving will be here soon. And I don't even have a turkey yet..

I have managed to make a few of the sleeves for Eyeglasses. Sharon V shared her method of making these and was very easy. You can get to her blog http://vroomansquilts.blogspot.com/. Check it out . She does so many things and is one busy giving Woman.

The ones I made yesterday,  9 total. I plan to make more using the homespun fabrics for the males of
the world.  Not sure where they will be donated just yet, but there will be a place I'm sure..

Have a great day everyone.. till next time..........

Time passes so quickly!!

I can't  believe it has been almost two months since I posted anything!! And I don't really have any excuses except nothing happening in my world worth telling about..

Now that the long hot summer is coming to a close.. Yippee, I can get back to my frame quilting. I have way too many quilts tops to be quilted and bound. Then taken to the Vets Restoration Center for use. This is the on going project I wrote about sometime last year. If all goes well they will be quilted in a meander. it is not what I want to do but time is of the essence and they will be needed before the snow flies.

I visit many blogs and read what others are doing and finishing etc. Seems most quilters are going back to the simpler things again. Lot so squares and strips. and simply done.  I think all the money talk across the country has much to do with it. Women get stressed and they want to make something to get their mind off everything negative. A good thing for sure.  Life goes on !!

Till next time............

Remembering my Mom

This post is all about my Mother, so if you want quilty it is not here today.

I want to remember my dear sweet mother today
Had she lived, she would have been 91 years old.. Hard for me to imagine that.
Mother was 57 when she died. Her life was anything but easy!
What you read  here are things I remember about her and some of the things she told me over the years.

Mother was the strongest and wisest woman I have ever known. She became a widow at the age of 30 with seven children, 6 girls and one boy, to raise. All we had was each other. This was way before the entitlements widows get today. Times were very hard but she kept us together for as long as she could.
Then she made, what she said was the hardest choice in her life!! The oldest child was placed in a girls only home and the youngest went to live with one of Moms brothers and his family. The middle 5 were placed in a children's home . I was one of the middle 5. she moved from the small town we lived in, worked 3 jobs to support us in the children's home. Never forgot to write and send cards.  We were there for 9 months or close to it. We relocated to a bigger city and began a different life.
We were raised to be a close knit family. As we were all we had, just each other.

Mom always had such wonderful bits of wisdom to share. And as we were growing  up, there was a open door policy at our house. Our door was never locked as Mom said you never know who might need a place to stay for the night. I remember many Saturday mornings she would get up and count heads to see how many of the neighbor kids had come in to sleep on the floor or in chair, as their parents locked them out for the night. Our house was always buzzing with friends and neighbors.
 And  much love from her.

Just a few things she said to me about life and such.
You are the company you keep. so if you hang with low life's that is what you will be!!  ( Oh how true these words are in today's world)
Never let a man keep you under his thumb!  There is a story that goes with this about her own life.
Be your own person and do what you like..You will be much happier.
Don't be a follower be a leader. (Most of the family is that today)
Always be a person of your word, no matter what.
It's a mighty poor hen who can't scratch for a few chicks.!  (this one rigns in my ears even today)

The loss of her only son was very hard on her. Our brother died in 1966 at the age of 24. And mom was devastated by this. We all had a hard time coming to gripes with his death.,but made it through.
She never seemed to fully recover his death.

Mother was a beautiful singer and played the piano and guitar as well.

I miss her as much today as I did the day she died in 1977.  Never have I met a woman such as she was.
I could go on and on but will save some stories for later.

Happy Birthday MOM!! I love you and miss you so very much..

blog comments!!

Very upsetting to me when I add a remark on a blog,  jump through all their hoops and then have to do it all over again. Because I didn't give them my email address.. What in the world is happening with the blog world?
And another thing gets me is to have to be a member of facebook and click like for them.
I will probably not be visiting those blogs again. Enough already!! I don't even do face book for my family members, why would I do that for someone I really don't know?  Weird , weird , weird ...

Till next time.....

My complaint of the day!!

After reading" Wilmas World"blog today I have to chime in on what she posted.
All too many blogs have gone commercial!! And this turns me off real quick.

We all know about moda fabrics, the go cutters, and the latest and greatest of what ever is out there.
Yippie Skippy- to them that have the big bucks to own one of every new item out there!!  I don't and probably never will.. And this is fine with me.  Maybe the word blog should be changed to :Brag-a-lot!!

Off my soap box now.. But if you feel this way, post it in your words on your blog.

till next time...............

It's called Life around here!!

So many days have passed since my last entry. Who knows where the time goes..
I have learned not to compare what I do with anyone else !! Those who did will always feel inadequate
every time. (Ask me how I know)

I have been making some progress with the Vets quilts. But still have a long way to go. And if I keep plugging along they will be done. Some many not realize what my project for the Vetrans really is,
these are not for the QOV group. These are for a one of a kind Restoration Center for Vetrans who have been homeless. And this place is giving them a hand UP not a hand OUT.! The program is wonderful and so needed for the forgotten heros in this counrty.

I read some place where the QOV has a mission of gifting a quilt to all Vets.. Not sure if this is true or not.  All I can is I know in my part of the counrty it is not true. Seems this has become much like the Linus project. Linus started by making quilts for kids in the hospital, I believe in Orgeon.  And are still being made today all over the counrty. Yet ,when my local friends visit the peds ward, they do not see quilts for the kids any place.. Weird to me. Yet there is a collection site in my area for these quilts. So where are they going?  Just asking.  I for one would rather hand deliver mine to the place so I know they are getting there. One of my sisters donates to a local program here and she knows they are not shipped some place else. This may trivail to some, but not to me. It matters to me where my work goes. And hand delivery is the best way to do this.. What is your opinon on this?

Have a wonderful day!
Till next time.......................

Where to begin! Where have I been?

WOW! where have I been for almost a month? The days have a way of slipping by fast.

Some people don't like reading some of what I say, but this is my blog so I guess I can do it my way..LOL
This time of year is hard on emotionally. I seem to go into a black area of life for a couple of weeks. I know what the cause is, I just can't make it go away.  i do all I can not to go there but it ctreeps in on me.  And I will say this up front, if you have never been there you can not understand it!! I am person who calls things as they are. Not happy, happy all the time!! Life hurts sometimes and I admit to that.  So now I will get on with my life..

I have so many tops to be quilted for Charity. They are stacking up. I do hope to get to started on them this week. Have things just about ready. Most of them are for the Vetrans Restoration Center in Asheville, NC.
Since my husband is a Vetran he thinks this a good place for me to do my donations. I have been told there are 225 beds, if not a few more. The quilts will remain at the center to make the place more homey. Which is a good thing,  I alos have several tops for kids to finish up, and they will more than likely go to the guardain ad litem program in my county. Kids need quilts..

Have you ever bought something from a person on line, paid for it not received the item? If so how did you handle it? I am in that position at the present. I paid for it through pay pal on Feb.19. and have yet to receive
the item. I don't want to get ugly about it, but she got my $$ and I got nothing. Not a fair deal.. So I guess  I will have to contact pay pal and go from there. Email contact with the person is like pulling hens teeth. Non existant !!

And have you ever won something from a blog, but never received what you won?  I have!!  Been waiting on it since last September.. Guess I best give up on that. LOL  And some of the blog give a ways want you to do this and then go here and do that and then do somethung else. Who has time for all that? Not me.
They loose me real quick as a reader when that happens. My theory is "KEEP IT SIMPLE".  They will have 1000's following them.  Either they want to give it away or they don't. Also, do they people who wint this stuff have to claim the value of it on their taxes?  Humm, could be interesting?

And now on a quilty note, I did get two lottery blocks done yesterday.  and here they are.  LOOK UP It is for a small on line group I belong too.. But we are open to new members. So if you might like to be apart of it, let me know I will send you and invite. At present there are 16 of us, and 6 of us have been there from the beginning, 12 years ago.

Hope you have a great day..

Till next time~~~~~~

Life at my place.

Has been a few days since I have added anything to this blog. In fact I have thought about just deleting  the whole thing and not blogging at all.  However  I am not required to blog a certain number of times weekly so for now I will keep it.

I trust you had a wonderful time through out the festive season. I for one am happy it is all over for now.

I have been doing some small sewing projects. Have great asperations of giving each Mother of my church
a Mug Rug and a new cup. Will all depend on how life goes.. So far I have 10 done- so I am making a dent.

The quilt tops are piling up for quilting. I know for a fact there are 22 for my Veterans project. And several smaller ones for the local children in need. Once the weather warms up I will get many of them completed and off to there new homes. Could not get my "Sewing Shed" doors open, due to ice and snow!  I may pin
baste the smaller ones and just do straight line quilting on them.  Not sure just yet.

Have you ever done inventory of a quilt shop? Not by computer, but the old way of hand counting?  It is something I have done for many years at the shop I work at part time.( Or I should say, when the owner wants to go out of town).  Anyway, inventory was done on December 30th. And was done in one day!
Every bolt of  fabric was fold counted, every button, thread, needle packs, and on and on..  There was 5 working thins year. And I am happy to say we started at 9AM- stopped for lunch for about 35 minutes- and  was totally done at 5:30 PM. The owner was very happy to say the least..   One of my sisters helped this year. From what she said, it was a good time for her. And didn't mind counting fabrics.

Hope you have a wonderful day and get to do what you want in the sewing/ quilting dept..

Till  next time.
